Bloom is a 23-meter-tall sculpture composed of repurposed streetlights, arranged to resemble a blossoming flower, serving as a prominent landmark and a functional light source on St. Patrick's Island.

Designed by Montreal-based artist Michel de Broin, Bloom is a monumental sculpture that evokes the form of a towering flower, crafted from repurposed industrial streetlights radiating outward from a central core. By day, it presents as a metallic flower; by night, it transforms into a constellation-like structure, illuminating the park.
Blending the raw infrastructure of the urban realm with the organic elegance of nature, Bloom is both a beacon and a gathering point—watchful by night, striking by day. Its seemingly delicate stems and radiating filaments contrast with the scale and solidity of its industrial materials, creating a compelling tension between strength and fragility.
“Like a burst of rays, the asymmetrically arranged streetlights show all possible directions outward and concentrate strength inward,” explains de Broin. “The projections of light connect the artwork to paths on the island and, in turn, create a node or point of focus. By illuminating important routes, the radiant shape helps the urban dweller orient themselves within the city.”
Flowers and lights—each a device of attraction—invite interaction. Bloom does the same, encouraging visitors to encounter it from every angle, and offering a moment of reflection on the convergence of infrastructure, environment, and imagination.
The sculpture is located within St. Patrick's Island Park, which features accessible pathways and amenities, ensuring that visitors of all abilities can experience the artwork
