Establishment 1

This mural is an architectural representation of China, juxtaposed with the early establishment of the Chinese people in Calgary, Alberta. In the mural there are representations of different Surname Associations that first started in the early 1900s. These associations were opened to unite the Chinese and support each other in times of need. It was very difficult to establish a life here in Alberta after the railway had finished. Along with these, other shops and schools that were opened during that time. They are clearly visible on this mural. Luck, Fortune & Longevity are the three important words that have a huge significance to the Chinese Culture, as a rich life is composed of all these three elements.
