This conceptual work of art explores the dividing lines between works of fine art and factory-produced advertisements.

Vera Gartley is a senior Calgary artist who taught at the Alberta College of Art and Design for many years. In this artwork, the text records a conversation the artist had with the manufacturer when she had the shapes made. While the X and diamond look like advertisements, what they might be selling is unclear. Are they selling an idea? Or nothing at all? According to the artist, it is up to the viewer to decide just what this work of art might be trying to discuss.
