Holding Fast

It includes 11 paintings of iconic CFD images such as Calgary's historic Fire Station No. 1, firefighters in action, a vintage fire truck, the trim of an Honour Guard uniform, and the bell used during the annual fallen firefighters' memorial ceremony. The central image featuring a modern-day firefighter reaching up to a firefighter of the past conveys the message "I've got you" and reinforces the CFD values of pride, professionalism, teamwork, and respect. Whether it's physical danger or mental illness, Calgary's firefighters take care of one another. The background is a stencil pattern comprised of three important firefighting symbols: the Maltese cross, the axe, and the pike pole. Nine of the stencils are painted a brass colour to represent the Calgary firefighters who have died in the line of duty.
