Gwen Hughes is the artist who created Pete from clay and acrylic paint. Born in Saskatchewan, Hughes now splits her time between Cochrane and California. She is known for her lighthearted portrayal of various animals, including pigs, cows, horses, and hippos. It was gifted to the City of Calgary from the Calgary Allied Arts Foundation in 1994.
