The Secret Story of Earth

Ben Moon

Just as this alleyway is tucked away and yet in plain sight, so too is the history of the earth. Viewers are welcome to take this artist’s version as fact or fiction.

About this work

Squeeze through this hidden snicket. One of Calgary’ tiniest walkable alleys makes you think about what to do when you are between a rock and a hard space.”

That’s where ingenuity comes in. Ben Moon, a student in painting at the art college, would like to expose you to alternative human histories, some unearthed by archaeologists and others still in the imagination.

This mural is inspired by Göbekli Tepe, an archaeological site in what is now Turkey. It is believed to have been a stone-age mountain sanctuary that predates Stonehenge by 6,000 years but all projections are considered preliminary since less than five percent of the site has been excavated. Just as this alleyway is tucked away and yet in plain sight, so too is the history of the earth. Viewers are welcome to take this artist’s version as fact or fiction.
