Made by artist Coeur-de-Lion MacCarthy, this bronze sculpture was donated to the City of Calgary in 1924 by a women's charitable organization called the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (IODE).

Born in England in 1881, Coeur-de-Lion MacCarthy moved to Montreal in 1918.The son of an artist, he is known for a number of other bronze busts and sculptures located across Canada.
