TRIO is a set of three colourful, kinetic sculptures resembling oversized "drinking birds," installed at the east and west entrances of Calgary's Central Library.
Designed by Christian Moeller, TRIO comprises three towering, kinetic sculptures, each standing approximately 9 to 10 metres tall and playfully reminiscent of oversized “drinking birds.” Gently swaying like pendulums, the sculptures create a sense of movement and rhythm that brings whimsy and animation to the library’s exterior plazas. Installed at the east and west entrances of the Calgary Central Library, TRIO invites curiosity, interaction, and delight from visitors of all ages.
The artwork was commissioned as part of Calgary's New Central Library project—an award-winning civic development led by Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) in collaboration with the Calgary Public Library and the City of Calgary. TRIO enriches the architectural experience of the library, reinforcing East Village’s identity as a destination for creativity, connection, and public life.
